Removed and suddenly back again

A removal is not a decision for ever.

All guides2 min read4 chapters

The review was gone, you had ticked the matter off, and a few weeks later it is back on the profile. This happens, there is a reason for it, and hardly anyone writes about it.

Why Google reverses decisions

The author is notified that their contribution was removed and can challenge this. If Google then sees things differently, it restores the contribution. Same review process, different result.

It also happens without the author doing anything. Google constantly reworks its review processes, and existing decisions are reassessed along the way. A review removed in spring can be back in autumn.

How often this happens

Rarely, but regularly enough that you have to expect it. In our own cases, it is in the low single-digit percentage range of all removals.

That is exactly why we keep checking after a removal instead of closing the case. If you only look once, on the day of the removal, you will not notice a return at all.

What you can do then

A restored review can be reported again. This only makes sense with a different reason than the first time: the same category with the same text leads to the same decision.

A second look at the author’s account is worthwhile. Time has passed between the first report and today, and some accounts now show a pattern that could not be seen back then.

What this means for billing

If you paid for the removal and the review comes back, the service has not been delivered. With us, it is credited back, and the review reappears in the list of open cases.

Ask about this before you hire anyone. A provider who does not know this case either handles few cases or stops looking once the invoice is sent.

Key points

A removal is a status, not an end point. If you keep watching afterwards, you notice a return in time and can tackle it again.

These texts explain Google’s policies, not the legal situation. Löscheule is not a legal services provider within the meaning of § 2 RDG (German Legal Services Act). If your case is a legal dispute, you need a lawyer.
